HR for Small Business
April 15, 2009Sales: Most Difficult Position to Hire
April 15, 2009Part 1: CEO Focus Roundtable Discussion
At a recent CEO Focus roundtable of eight entrepreneurs, I conducted a survey about top talent. I asked these experienced business owners to define an “A” player. Follows are the comments expressed.
Make an immediate impact. Motivations beyond just money. Makes business owner’s life easier, not harder. Self-sufficient. Smart. Short learning curve. Results driven. Perform like they have a stake in the business.
Deeper discussions developed on this topic, yet the over-riding consensus was that an “A” player for small business is not defined the same as an “A” player for larger companies. The stage of the business and the type of position determined what an “A” player looked like.
Jim Muehlhausen, founder of CEO Focus, facilitated this roundtable discussion.
