According to research by The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, the 2016 national average of companies with fewer than 50 employees offering health insurance is 28.6%. By state, the lowest was Montana with only 16.1% and the highest was Hawaii with 70.5%. Other notable states are Indiana (20.3%), Illinois (27.2%), Maryland (32.9%), Texas (28.5%).
